Man Crossing Long Island Intersection Struck, Killed By Mack Truck

A man was killed after being struck by a truck while he was crossing a busy Long Island intersection overnight.

The incident happened on Thursday, June 3 at around 10:10 p.m. in Levittown.

While attempting to cross northbound on Wantagh Avenue at Hempstead Turnpike, the 50-year-old man was struck by a 2000 Mack truck traveling westbound, Nassau County Police said.

The man suffered multiple trauma injuries to his body and was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:28 pm by a hospital physician, police said.

The male driver, age 43, remained at the scene.

The vehicle went through a brake and safety check.

The investigation is ongoing.
